Secrest Family Chiropractic Treats Neuropathy

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Nov. 08, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Secrest Family Chiropractic is using advanced chiropractic techniques to treat neuropathy. Neuropathy is a condition where the peripheral nervous system is damaged. Patients report pain that feels like burning or stabbing, often in their feet and hands.  It can also cause weakness and numbness and can affect other parts of the body as well.  Neuropathy is usually caused by physical trauma, infections, exposure to toxins, genetics, or chronic metabolic conditions. Often, symptoms can be alleviated if the underlying condition can be treated and improved.

According to Dr. Daniel P. Secrest DC of Secrest Family Chiropractic, the number of patients presenting with neuropathic symptoms is on the rise. "A significant cause of neuropathy is diabetes. While these patients can manage their condition with lifestyle changes and medications, diabetes, even well-controlled, takes a toll on the nervous system. With diabetes on the rise, unfortunately, so are the cases of neuropathy that we are seeing in the office."

"The statistics paint a grim picture," continued Dr. Secrest DC. According to the Centers for Disease Control, over 29 million individuals have some form of diabetes, and approximately 25 percent of those individuals are unaware that they have it. According to Dr. Secrest DC, "This is one reason that our practice focuses on the overall wellness of our patients. There are another 86 million individuals, including children, who are considered pre-diabetic. If they do not make significant lifestyle changes they will develop diabetes within 5 years, placing themselves at an increased risk for complications like neuropathy."

Dr. Secrest DC uses Koren Specific Technique (KST) and Applied Kinesiology (AK) techniques to alleviate the pain and suffering associated with neuropathy. KST uses a series of techniques to challenge, check and correct the body's structural system. Corrections are performed with a highly specific adjustment employing an FDA approved activation device, a tool that works to realign and remove nerve pressure.

These techniques can be used to treat a wide range of conditions in addition to neuropathy. "We use Koren Specific Technique and Applied Kinesiology to treat conditions such as TMJ, joint discomfort, fibromyalgia, headaches, and problems associated with soft tissues like menstrual cramps, digestive problems and trauma," stated Dr. Secrest DC. "We find that our patients find relief from these conditions with treatment rather than an intensification of symptoms when these conditions are left untreated."
