NorthStar Ford Group Canada Employees Collect 6,400 Pounds of Food and $3,219.40 in Monetary Donations for We Day's Free the Children We Scare Hunger Campaign

FORT MCMURRAY, AB--(Marketwired - Nov 23, 2015) - NorthStar Ford Group Canada employees, who work at locations in Fort McMurray, Cochrane, Fort McKay and Calgary, walked door-to-door throughout local communities to collect food, cash and Halloween costumes for kids in October. The end result was truckloads of F150s piled high with 6,400 pounds of non-perishable food items and $3,219.40 for We Day's Free the Children We Scare Hunger campaign. Holy Trinity School in Fort McMurray, Mitford School in Cochrane and W.O. Mitchell Elementary School in Calgary also helped with the fundraising efforts.

Marty Giles, dealer principal of NorthStar Ford Group, said, "This campaign is about meeting the needs in the community and getting food and monetary donations into the hands of those who need it most. I am overwhelmed by the continuous support of our community and hope that NorthStar Ford Group can continue this tradition with We Scare Hunger for many years to come. We do a lot of charity work in our community, however, this is truly an employee-led campaign, and I am just another member of the team. They do this because they believe it and initiate it not because I tell them to."

In the north, Holly Hunt, Heather Osborne and Susan Mills ran the campaign. In the south, Cherie Haynes, Sib Kalsbeek and Amy Hurtubise led the campaign. We Scare Hunger is an annual food drive that benefits local food banks in the community. This year, donations went to the Wood Buffalo Food Bank Association, Cochrane Activettes and Stoney Tribal Administration, benefiting First Nations in Morley, Alberta. The campaign ran through the month of October.

According to Food Banks Canada, more than 850,000 Canadians, 310,000 of which are children, rely on food banks every month to find their next meal. In Alberta alone, 42.9 percent of food bank donations went to helping children. Campaigns like We Scare Hunger allow food banks to stock their shelves with essential non-perishable food donations. These non-perishable items include much more than canned goods, such as soup, vegetables and fruit, but also include pasta, rice, cereal, shelf stable juice and other shelf stable items.
