BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - December 04, 2015) - What items do you think will be considered antiques and collectibles in 20 years time? Assuming that question was pondered the first day of filming ANTIQUES ROADSHOW in 1996, the upcoming all-new season will reveal the accuracy of those guesses!
Beginning January 4th a new 20th anniversary season of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW reveals the next generation of antiques Mondays at 8/7c PM on PBS. Along with a surprising scope of treasures, viewers will see a new show opening, a new set and new "Snapshots" feature that ultimately delivers more appraisals than ever before in each hour-long episode.
"New items are part of the mix we see each year, revealing another layer to what we consider antiques," says Executive Producer Marsha Bemko. "This season, along with luminaries including Oscar Wilde, Sir Edmund Hillary and Babe Ruth, the unique stories of Jimi Hendrix, Andy Warhol and John F. Kennedy will come to life through items brought to our recent summer tour! The values can be astounding, but more often it's the stories and historical context behind these personal treasures that resonate with our audience."
In this new season, 13-time Emmy® Award-nominated ROADSHOW produced three one-hour episodes from each of six iconic cities, revealing exciting and unexpected new treasures including:
- In Spokane, Washington, we appraised a John F. Kennedy press archive, brought to ROADSHOW by a former White House press officer who accompanied JFK on his fateful trip to Dallas.
Spokane, WA episodes air January 4, 11 and 18
- In Little Rock, Arkansas, a former Playboy magazine editor brought a 1983 Truman Capote manuscript from his time working with the iconic writer for the magazine's 30th anniversary, still in its original envelope!
Little Rock, AR episodes air January 26, February 1 and 8
- In Charleston, South Carolina, we saw a collection of Jimi Hendrix items acquired by a concert-goer at a 1970 show in Stockholm, Sweden, held just weeks before the famous musician's death.
Charleston, SC episodes air February 15, 22 and 29
- In Tucson, Arizona, a guest brought a Rolex watch, along with its original box and paperwork, purchased 55 years ago for a month's salary from a PX store in Germany. This model is the first GMT Master Rolex ever made.
Tucson, AZ episodes air March 28, April 4 and 11
- In Omaha, Nebraska, a former clubhouse boy for the Yankees 1957-1959 rookie league team brought two uniforms -- one belonging to eventual 10-time All Star Whitey Ford, the other to the late legendary 3-time MVP Yogi Berra!
Omaha, NE episodes air April 18 and 25, May 2
- In Cleveland, Ohio, we saw a first-edition copy of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book "Where the Wild Things Are," purchased with the guest's first paycheck in 1963 for just $3.50 and it's been a prized possession since.
Cleveland, OH episodes air May 9, 16 and 23
