APPLETON, Wis., Dec. 29, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Senior Helpers®, one of the largest in-home senior care companies in the U.S., announced today that nationally renowned Alzheimer's and dementia care expert Teepa Snow will be speaking at a free Senior Helpers event on January 4th, 2016 at the Grand Meridian at 2621 North Oneida Street, Appleton, WI 54911 from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
The event, which is open to the public and sponsored in part by the well-known Appleton-area law and estate planning firm Hooper Law Office, will consist of a morning and afternoon session. The morning session will focus on professionals in the senior care field, and the afternoon session will focus on families who find themselves in caregiving roles for aging loved ones.
The morning session for professionals begins at 8:30 AM and features what every provider and caregiver needs to know about the three "Ds" of dementia care: delirium, depression and dementia. Continuing education credit is available for professionals with payment of a $25 fee. The afternoon session for families, which begins at 2:00 PM, centers on humor in caregiving and presents ways families can recognize and use humor to create a more positive and effective connection with those for whom they are caring.
Teepa Snow is a master's prepared occupational therapist with over thirty years of clinical practice and teaching experience in a wide variety of educational settings. She has clinical appointments at Duke University's School of Nursing and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Medicine, and has worked in hospitals, retirement communities, nursing homes, and community settings as well as taught at universities and colleges from the undergraduate and post-doctoral level.
The event will also feature a light breakfast beginning at 7:30 AM and various sponsors from the local community including Hooper Law Office, Azura Memory Care, Grand Horizons Community Based Residential Facility, Lakeshore Manor, Neuroscience Group, Touchmark Senior Living, and others.
