Attend the Active Learning and Student Engagement Symposium


On January 14, Nebraska Methodist College- The Josie Harper Campus will host a series of educational guest lectures and unveil the Charlotte Schultz Learning Commons and Student Engagement Center, a state-of-the-art meeting and study space located on the NMC campus.

OMAHA, Neb., Jan. 11, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Nebraska Methodist College Active Learning and Student Engagement Symposium will take place this Thursday.
 
The symposium will feature an array of thought leaders from the worlds of design and higher education, including Dr. Kevin Kruger, president of NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.

The Nebraska Methodist College symposium is timed to the official debut of the Charlotte Schultz Learning Commons and Student Engagement Center. Attendees will receive the first look at the meeting spaces, study pods and other amenities that have been designed to improve the educational experience and facilitate interaction and camaraderie among students, faculty and staff.
 
"This enhanced learning environment serves as a focal point for all future students of Nebraska Methodist College," said Dr. Dennis Joslin, president and CEO of Nebraska Methodist College. "I truly believe that the Charlotte Schultz Learning Commons and Student Engagement Center will set a precedent for using active study spaces to engage students more intuitively in their classwork. With this step, our campus will build the foundation for progressive education that we hope to carry throughout our 125th Anniversary and beyond."
 
Steelcase Inc. and Sheppard's Business Interiors are sponsoring the event and were instrumental in the successful development of the Center, where the healthcare and nursing leaders of tomorrow will congregate for years to come.
 
The list of guest speakers for the event, along with the topics they will cover, is as follows:

  • 1pm: Welcome from Dr. Dennis Joslin, President, Nebraska Methodist College
  • 1:10pm-2pm: Dr. Kevin Kruger, President, NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education - Technology and Student Affairs
  • 2:10-3pm: Ken Brown, Regional Education Leader, Steelcase, Inc. - Active Learning
  • 3:10-3:45pm: Aileen Strickland, Researcher, Steelcase, Inc. - Built Environments Impact Behaviors

At the conclusion of Ms. Strickland's presentation, guests will be ushered into the Charlotte Schultz Learning Commons and Student Engagement Center for a short ribbon-cutting ceremony. At the conclusion of that ceremony, guests are invited to tour the facility and experience the wide array of interactive modules placed throughout the Center.
