TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Jan. 14, 2016) - Route1 Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ROI) (the Company or Route1), a leading provider of secure access technologies for the mobile workspace to protect businesses and government agencies, today announced that the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), after completing its accreditation process, issued an authority to operate (ATO) for the MobiKEY technology and the DEFIMNET platform that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) installed at a secure DOI hosting facility in March 2015.
"The MobiKEY technology is one of the core components in our bureau mobility and desktop virtualization strategy. After extensive piloting across all our regional offices we found that it delivers an exceptional level of functionality and flexibility across a wide gamut of use cases, while at the same time exceeding the strictest departmental and federal security requirements", said Ken Taylor, FWS' Assistant Director, IRTM and CIO. "As an added value, we found the MobiKEY technology out of the box enhanced our Citrix VDI solution - delivering portability and astounding performance. With the accreditation of the DEFIMNET completed, and a full ATO granted by the Department of Interior, we envision rapid adaptation of the solution across all the DOI bureaus. It will enable the department to strengthen its HSPD-12 compliance without incurring any capital outlays."
FWS Usage of MobiKEY
In December 2014, Route1 agreed to build and provide for use by FWS and DOI a DEFIMNET platform - Route1's universal identity management system and service delivery platform. The guiding elements of the agreement with FWS include:
- Annual subscription based use of the MobiKEY application software;
- One time purchases of MobiKEY Fusion devices that allows DOI users to authenticate using their U.S. government issued PIV cards; and
- Annual DEFIMNET maintenance.
FWS has been piloting MobiKEY since early 2011 and Route1 expects to grow the approximately 400 users by leveraging the blanket purchase agreement (BPA) with FWS that was first announced in May 2011. The BPA is for up to 10,000 users.
FWS' primary goal in expanding the usage of MobiKEY was to enable "Mission Accomplishment while Away from the Office". Further goals are:
- A reduction in the reliance on a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to drive improved reliability, performance and data security;
- The delivery of cost savings through a reduction in Government Furnished Equipment (GFE), including capital and operational expenditures
- The support of the move to a virtualization based infrastructure, including integration with Citrix; and
- Compliancy with the mandated use of U.S. government issued Personal Identity Verification (PIV) cards.
