CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwired - January 28, 2016) - NuoDB, the database for cloud-enabled global applications, has continued to reshape how the market thinks about databases. Recognized as a visionary in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems (DBMS)* in October 2015, NuoDB marries the simplicity and transactional consistency customers expect from traditional databases with the elasticity, scalability, and flexibility they need to serve an increasingly growing, global, and mobile customer base.
Over the past 12 months, the company has strengthened its support for global and cloud-based applications by bolstering its product offering, with massive improvements to its scale-out capabilities and formal support for container-based environments, and expanded the management team to further build out the product and ensure customers success. As a result, NuoDB revenue increased by nearly 85 percent year-over-year, driven by demand from new customers, as well as expansions of existing customer deployments.
Doing Things Differently Garners Industry Validation
Traditional databases are powerful systems that have served the needs of on-premise applications, but as organizations increasingly seek to lower costs, increase availability, and gain greater flexibility for their applications, they quickly find their existing database systems cannot handle today's requirements. In contrast, NuoDB's SQL database was designed for distributed environments such as the cloud or Docker, enabling customers to maintain the enterprise management capabilities and transactional integrity they need, but with the flexibility to elastically scale on commodity hardware across multiple data centers.
In addition, Gartner named NuoDB as a visionary in the 2015 Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems and also placed NuoDB in the top four for all use cases analyzed in a follow on report entitled, "Critical Capabilities for Operational Database Management Systems**". In fact, NuoDB received the highest product score (4.35 out of 5) out of 20 vendors evaluated for the Distributed Variable Data use case. NuoDB believes these findings reinforce the company's mission and position as an innovator in an increasingly crowded marketplace.
Elasticity as Core to Our Product DNA
In 2015, NuoDB further advanced its market-leading support for distributed environments and elastic scalability. The DBT-2 benchmark test conducted in June demonstrated NuoDB's ability to continually scale out the database and reach more than one million new order transactions per minute -- reinforcing the database's powerful performance and scalability capabilities, which is critical for enterprises running high-transaction business applications, globally.
In December, NuoDB expanded native support for Docker. Built around the same principles that have driven Docker's widespread adoption -- flexibility, scalability, and ease of deployment -- NuoDB's Durable Distributed Cache (DDC) architecture enables customers to add capacity on-demand across multiple hosts, containers, and even data centers, making it easier for the database to work naturally within and with containers.
Expanded Leadership for Expanded Market Opportunities
NuoDB's ongoing innovation has been led by the company's expanded management team. Under the leadership of newly appointed President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Walmsley, the company bolstered its executive roster naming industry veterans Roger Blanchette as chief financial officer, Jim Watson as senior vice president of engineering, and promoted Dirk Hamstra to vice president of services along with Charles Lamb to vice president of software development. NuoDB Founder Barry Morris in his role as executive chairman continues to lead company strategy and strategic alliances for the company. With decades of experience among them, collectively, the group will continue to evangelize NuoDB's innovative approach to database management and capitalize on emerging market opportunities.
To further support company growth and increased customer adoption, NuoDB also expand their presence across the globe with the opening of a development center in Dublin, Ireland to serve as the hub of operations across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and relocated the company's worldwide headquarters to new, larger office space in Kendall Square, Cambridge Ma.
