MERIDEN, CT--(Marketwired - Feb 16, 2016) - Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), a global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, today announced that it has added enhanced broadcast manufacturing capabilities to its U.S. headquarters in Meriden, Connecticut. RFS -- which has a long history of innovation in the broadcast market -- will add expansive indoor and outdoor space designated for the production and testing of its state-of-the-art products. The Meriden facility -- which has utilized lean manufacturing best practices since inception -- will now be home to an extensive team of RFS broadcast experts and will be the heart of its U.S. broadcast manufacturing operations, allowing the company to better support broadcasters as they prepare for the U.S. broadcast television spectrum repacking program.
For more than 40 years, RFS has manufactured multi-channel broadband antennas and is widely recognized as a specialist in the design and manufacture of multi-channel antenna and transmission systems. RFS has been involved in a number of high-profile broadcast projects, including presently being at the forefront of providing a unique terrestrial broadcasting solution for One World Trade Center (ONE WTC) in New York City. Now, with 800 to 1,200 full power U.S. television stations potentially needing to change frequencies after the reverse auction scheduled for March 2016, RFS is more committed than ever to supporting broadcast manufacturing domestically.
"RFS is substantially growing our U.S.-based broadcast team and making a significant investment in new, state-of-the-art equipment to ensure that we have the engineering and manufacturing capabilities in Meriden to provide broadcasters with best-in-class products and support that will enable them to be ready for the transition to the new channel plan," said Nick Wymant, CTO of RFS' Broadcast Division. "RFS understands the imminent challenges of the market and is excited to be able to offer products manufactured right here in the U.S. and coupled with the insight of seasoned broadcast manufacturing, engineering and industrialization experts."
RFS offers a full suite of broadcast products that are frequency agile, polarization agile and future proof, including its SBB series of wideband slot antennas, PEP Lite antennas and PEP master antennas. The SBB and PEP Lite antennas provide low wind-load and allow operation on any channel within the full UHF band.
Combined with the recently introduced, fully tunable high power mask filters that can be retuned to any channel in a matter of hours, a system can be installed that allows operation on both pre-repack and post-repack channels well ahead of the transition date. A rapid and simple frequency change to the new channel is then possible when the switch-over date occurs.
In addition to the new antenna products, RFS will continue to manufacture the traditional slotted pole (pylon) antenna types, however advanced design, testing and production methods will allow much shorter than typical lead times for single channel pylon products.
RFS has also added test chambers to the Meriden production facility and will be able to perform near-field testing to ensure accurate performance results anytime and under any scenario, regardless of outdoor weather conditions.
