Morgan Lewis Adds Former Justice Department Lawyer to Chicago Litigation Team

CHICAGO, March 1, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Morgan Lewis has further strengthened its litigation team and continued the strategic growth of its Chicago office with the addition of partner Daniel T. Fahner, who focuses on a broad range of complex litigation and white collar matters. Mr. Fahner, who was previously a partner at another global law firm, served earlier in his career in several positions at the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

"I am extremely pleased Dan is joining our firm, where his comprehensive litigation background will be of value to clients facing multi-faceted and complex challenges," said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. "Dan is well known in Chicago's legal and business communities, and his skill as a litigator, combined with his history of government service, makes him an ideal fit for us."

In addition to representing clients in state and federal courts across the United States, Mr. Fahner appears in arbitrations and mediations and before government agencies. He is experienced in matters involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and in the areas of employment, contract, products liability, bankruptcy, and intellectual property law. A graduate of Northwestern University School of Law, he has deep roots in Chicago, where he is a member of the Chicago Inn of Court.

Mr. Fahner has spent significant time in government service. From 2007 to 2009, he worked in the DOJ as counsel to the assistant attorney general in the Civil Rights Division, where he supervised the enforcement of federal anti-discrimination and immigration laws. He also served as senior counsel for the DOJ's Office of Legal Policy, where he carried out legal and regulatory analysis, coordinated the department's efforts on a number of policy initiatives, and vetted judicial nominees. From 2005 to 2007, Mr. Fahner served in the DHS as special assistant to the assistant secretary in charge of immigration and customs enforcement.

"Dan provides our clients with a significant new resource in Chicago," said J. Gordon Cooney Jr., leader of Morgan Lewis's litigation practice. "He will be an asset not only for clients in the Midwestern United States, but for any who are confronting litigation elsewhere in the country, or who need assistance in dealing with government agencies and regulators."

Mr. Fahner joins a Chicago office that has experienced substantial recent growth. Just last week, Morgan Lewis welcomed four new partners to its intellectual property team in Chicago. Those additions closely followed the arrival of partners Beth Herrington and Mark Altschul, which added considerable strength to Morgan Lewis's litigation practice in Chicago.

"Dan's joining us is a further reflection of our firm's strong commitment to the Midwest and to our Chicagoland clients in particular," said Scott Schutte, Chicago office managing partner. "We have respected his work in some very high-profile cases and I am now very pleased to welcome him to our office as a colleague."
