DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., March 4, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WHAT: GEICO and the Mobile USO center will be on the ground to support service members attending Daytona Bike Week. This year, GEICO has invited the Mobile USO center to participate in its static military display March 4-13 at Daytona Beach Bike Week. Bike fans will be able to visit the Mobile USO center at Bruce Rossmeyer's Daytona Harley-Davidson dealership, under the spotlight of GEICO. WHO: Not only is it Daytona Beach Bike Week's 75th anniversary, the USO is also celebrating its diamond anniversary. GEICO has been a strategic sponsor of the Mobile USO for two years. This year, the GEICO-USO partnership will bring the Mobile USO to Daytona Bike Week, the Indianapolis 500 and the Talladega GEICO 500.
WHERE & WHEN:
Bruce Rossmeyer's Daytona Harley-Davidson
1637 N. US Highway 1
Ormond Beach, FL 32174
March 4-13
WHY: GEICO, serving the military since it was founded in 1936, is providing a spot at Bruce Rossmeyer's Daytona Harley-Davidson dealership for the USO to showcase the new Mobile USO center. Mobile USOs bring signature USO programming and services directly to service members serving in remote locations around the United States where the military can't easily access a USO center. Mobile USOs provide a comfortable place for men and women in uniform to relax and connect online with family and friends during downtime. Each Mobile USO offers flat-screen televisions, video game consoles, Wi-Fi access, casual seating, refrigerators, coffee makers and microwaves.
ABOUT THE MOBILE USO
The Mobile USO fleet is nearly as old as the organization itself. In the 1940s, the USO dispatched mobile centers to remote sites so service members in the field – many of whom were training stateside in preparation for World War II – could enjoy their limited downtime. In those early years, Mobile USOs consisted of trucks with generators, screens and projectors to show film reels, public address systems, turntables and records, sports gear, board games, books and snacks. The new Mobile USO is 38 feet long and features two 65-inch TVs, five Xbox gaming systems and will be wheelchair accessible. The vehicle includes both internal and external sound systems with three slide-outs to accommodate more people. It also has a canteen window for food service.
