XPRT Women Code-a-Thon generated fresh perspectives and strong community

DURHAM, NC--(Marketwired - March 22, 2016) -  On March 12-13, the BenchmarkXPRT Development Community and ChickTech co-hosted the XPRT Women Code-a-Thon in Seattle. In addition to generating a wide variety of compelling and useful ideas, the weekend itself was fun and thought-provoking for both the participants and the hosts.

The 20 participants spent two days building device workloads for possible inclusion in future versions of the BenchmarkXPRT tools, or XPRTs. All contestants, some developing in teams and some as individuals, worked hard and produced exciting new ideas for workloads. These ideas will expand the XPRTs' range and help them achieve the goal of reflecting real-world technology usage, making them more useful and effective tools.

ChickTech and the BenchmarkXPRT Development Community awarded prizes totaling $2,500 to the top three workloads. First place went to Viveret Steele for her 3D modeling workload. Annmarie Aidoo received second place for a geolocation workload. Finally, Molly Fallen and Alex Trimble took home third place for their audio-enhancement workload.

Jennie Faries, one of the code-a-thon's judges, was particularly impressed with how the group of contestants came together as a community. "The social side of the event proved to be as meaningful as the technical," she said in a BenchmarkXPRT blog published March 18. "People talked, formed friendships and mentoring relationships, and discussed seeking other events like this one. Two people said the event changed their lives."
