This year, honorees Farooq Kathwari, chairman, president and CEO of Ethan Allen, and Richard Feng, founder, chairman and CEO of Markor Group, were presented with Spirit of Life awards. The Spirit of Life Award is presented to individuals who have made a difference: people who have influenced the industry with their character, leadership, and philanthropy.
"It was a great honor to receive The Spirit of Life Award,” says Kathwari. “But for me, it’s really all about the amazing work being accomplished at City of Hope. The organization is making groundbreaking research in its fight against cancer and other life-threatening diseases, and I’m proud to play a part in that. I was also pleased to announce that our family foundation is planning to set up a $250,000 endowment to help find a cure for childhood cancer."
Since its inception in 1965, City of Hope’s International Home Furnishings Industry, which includes manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, sales representatives, and service providers, has raised more than $54 million. With more than $1.8 million raised in contributions from IHFI members and events this year, the 2016 fundraising effort is a record breaker for City of Hope.
