DURHAM, NC--(Marketwired - April 27, 2016) - MetaMetrics®, developer of the widely adopted Lexile® Framework for Reading, is pleased to announce its partnership with Junior Library Guild. Junior Library Guild is a collection development and book review service that distributes books to thousands of schools and public libraries. By licensing and integrating the Lexile® Titles Database, Junior Library Guild will feature Lexile® measures for books in their collection.
Junior Library Guild is a unique collection development service that reviews and selects children's and young adult books prior to their publication. New-release JLG selections are placed into one of 73 categories ranging from Prekindergarten to Adult Crossover and are then shipped to member libraries on a monthly basis. Nearly all of the JLG's book selections go on to win awards, collect starred or favorable reviews, and earn industry honors.
"Our goal is to serve our customers with all of the information they need to make the best book choices for their libraries," said Andrew Thorne, VP Marketing, Junior Library Guild. "Licensing the Lexile Titles Database allows us to provide Lexile measures for our books, arming librarians and educators with valuable information about the book's text complexity to help guide text selection."
Recognized as the most widely used reading measure, Lexile measures help readers improve literacy skills by selecting materials that match their unique reading levels. The Lexile Titles Database contains Lexile measures for informational and literary works from over 300 publishers. Junior Library Guild is among the nearly 50 educational companies including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Renaissance Learning™, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt that license the Lexile Titles Database and incorporate Lexile text measures in their learning products and services.
"The power of integrating the Lexile Titles Database is its ability to make products and services more dynamic," stated Malbert Smith, Ph.D., CEO, President and Co-Founder of MetaMetrics. "Lexile measures are actionable and provide the ability to match readers with targeted text. Junior Library Guild is an excellent resource for libraries and schools, and we are thrilled that Lexile measures will now be a consideration when determining which books to purchase for a library."
