BURNABY, BC--(Marketwired - May 19, 2016) - Despite billions being spent on new transit and roads, a majority of Metro Vancouver residents say they won't give up their car. That's just one of the observations from an Insights West survey conducted exclusively for BCBusiness.
The June issue of BCBusiness takes an in-depth look at commuting and the impact it has on the B.C. economy. While more than three quarters of people surveyed said living close to where they work was important to them, a minority said they've accepted less money for a job closer to home or would pay tolls to produce a shorter commute. One notable exception: residents of the Fraser Valley, where 50 per cent of respondents said they'd pay for tolls if it reduced commute times.
"Commuting is one of the hottest topics around," says BCBusiness Editor-in-Chief Matt O'Grady. "It has a profound effect not just on our economy but also on our environment and our emotional well-being. The survey results, combined with research from writer Frances Bula, make for very thought-provoking reading."
Complete poll results and in-depth analysis can be found in the June 2016 issue of BCBusiness, on newsstands May 26, and online at BCBusiness.ca/commuting.
