On view June 4 – July 10, the exhibition features new works by 2016 studio artists: Caitlin Blomstrom, Maggie Bush, Ali Feeney, Gayle Forman, Randy Hess, Hannah Kirkpatrick, Heidi Peelen, Charlotte Potter, Evelyn Robertson, Neal Robinson, Jennifer Sleeper, Amanda Page Stephens, and Sarah Vaughn.
Just Between Us is the first exhibition of works created during Glass Wheel’s inaugural Studio Artist Program. This immersive incubator program is awarded to 13 visual artists annually. It provides opportunities for research, experimentation and ultimately aims to foster creative innovations and new modes of working collaboratively.
Since the Program’s launch last November, the artists have worked intensely to push the limits of their craft. Through collaboration and monthly group critiques, many have found new methods, resources, and support to explore ambitious projects often outside the scope of their previous art practices.
From large-scale works linking historical paintings with timely political candidates to stained glass that reveals a look into human anatomy, the show includes an impressive range of media. Double-sided snow globes merging iconic cities across time and space, and digital animations that question how to retain one’s identity in and after a relationship, offer viewers deeper connections to the exhibition’s Just Between Us moniker.
“This exhibition is truly a dialogue about art, and the range of conversations artists must have with themselves, their materials and ultimately their audience to actualize meaningful work,” said Cheryl White, director of Glass Wheel Studio. “The works in this show demonstrate the fierce commitment and ingenuity of all our artists. I am extremely proud of all they have accomplished in just six short months!”
Studio artists will also partner with the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio for a series of free glassblowing demos, which will take place at noon on select Fridays during the exhibition, beginning Friday, June 3.
At the June 3rd opening, art fans will be able to meet the artists and purchase works while enjoying light refreshments and a cash bar. This event is free and open to the public. Learn more on the Facebook event at http://bit.ly/GWSFourthExhibition.
