Cholesterol, from the Ancient Greek chole- (bile) and stereos (solid) followed by the chemical suffix -ol for an alcohol, is an organic molecule. It is a sterol (or modified steroid), a lipid molecule and is biosynthesized by all animal cells because it is an essential structural component of all animal (not plant or bacterial) cell membranes that is required to maintain both membrane structural integrity and fluidity. Cholesterol enables animal cells to dispense with a cell wall to protect membrane integrity and cell viability, thus allowing them to change shape and move about (unlike bacteria and plant cells which are restricted by their cell walls). n addition to its importance within cells, cholesterol also serves as a precursor for the biosynthesis of steroid hormones and bile acids. Cholesterol is the principal sterol synthesized by animals. All kinds of cells in animals can produce it. In vertebrates the hepatic cells typically produce greater amounts than other cells. It is almost completely absent among prokaryotes (bacteria and archaea), although there are some exceptions such as Mycoplasma, which require cholesterol for growth.

Colon Hydrotherapy uses equipment to introduce water into the large intestines or colon and release waste and water. Colon Hydrotherapy is a safe, effective method of removing waste from the large intestine. By introducing a small amount of filtered water into the colon by the use of sterile and disposable rectal tubes, the waste is softened and loosened, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis. There are two basic types of colonic irrigation equipment used in the medical profession today, namely open irrigation and closed irrigation. Both require a speculum to be placed inside the opening of the rectum with tubing connecting the spectrum with the irrigation machine. Water flows into the body, through the colon, and then back out.
