JACKSONVILLE, FL--(Marketwired - July 18, 2016) - Award-winning cardiologist, Neil J. Stone, MD, FACC, FNLA, will be the keynote speaker at the National Lipid Association (NLA) Clinical Lipid Update (CLU) in Amelia Island, Fla. on Friday, August 26th. Dr. Stone is a cardiologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a special interest in lipid disorders. He is the medical director at the Center for Vascular Disease of the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute and the Robert Bonow Professor of Medicine in preventive cardiology at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. He was awarded the American Heart Association's 2014 Physician of the Year, for his outstanding accomplishments in the field. The opening keynote session of the CLU, presented by Dr. Stone, will address the importance of primary prevention and the challenge of early intervention for the clinician.
Saturday's Keynote address will be delivered by Edward Fisher, MD, PhD, FNLA, a professor of cardiovascular medicine at the New York University (NYU) School of Medicine, director of the Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease at NYU Langone Medical Center and the director of the Marc and Ruti Bell Program in Vascular Biology. He will present his research on the regression of atherosclerosis. His presentation is titled "Regression of Atherosclerosis: The Journey from the Liver to the Plaque and Back." It will highlight information regarding his laboratory and research involving in the cell biological events that produces apolipoprotein B and the reversal of the damage that they cause in the plaques that are formed in the arterial wall. Dr. Fisher will present his lecture on Saturday, August 27th.
The last keynote presentation will be presented on Sunday, August 28th, and will be given by Robert Eckel, MD, FNLA, who is the Charles A. Boettcher Endowed Chair in Atherosclerosis in the Department of Medicine at University of Colorado. Dr. Eckel will discuss "Statins and Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus: When and How?" His presentation will cover questions regarding the amount of consideration that should be put into additional risk factors, information regarding dosage, and the difference between the atherosclerotic process in T1DM and T2DM.
Other notable experts in the field such as Ira Goldberg, MD, FNLA, and Peter W.F. Wilson, MD, FNLA, will also be speaking at the National Lipid Association's Clinical Lipid Update.
