SYRACUSE, N.Y., July 18, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A renewed partnership between Lockheed Martin Corporation and the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University was formalized this morning at a check presentation in the Milton Room at the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. The presentation was held during the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) at Syracuse University – a cutting-edge entrepreneurship and small business management training program offered to post-9/11 veterans with service-related disabilities.
In addition to announcing Lockheed Martin as an IVMF Two-Star Corporate Partner, Dr. Mike Haynie, IVMF executive director and vice chancellor of veteran and military affairs at Syracuse University, added that Lockheed's commitment of $1 million over the next three years will benefit the IVMF's veteran entrepreneurship programs and the AmericaServes program focused on helping veterans and military families make the transition to post-service life.
"We are thrilled to have Lockheed Martin as a continued IVMF Corporate Partner," said Dr. Haynie. "Lockheed Martin is uniquely positioned to provide enduring careers to our nation's veterans offering technical and field positions to a well-trained cohort with transferable skills. Further, Lockheed's past support of our nation's veteran entrepreneurs will quickly scale through new and novel programming and resources such as the Coalition for Veteran Owned Businesses (CVOB) and the National Center of Excellence (CoE) for Veteran Entrepreneurship. Leveraging the IVMF's national program offerings and acknowledged leadership role in community engagement and connectedness, Lockheed will be afforded the opportunity to quickly (and with impact) seed and cultivate connections in key markets and customer segments."
Lockheed Martin has been an active partner of the IVMF and Syracuse University's veterans programs for nearly a decade. Lockheed Martin was one of the first financial partners of EBV program at Syracuse University – a social venture on ten world-class university campuses across the country that serves aspiring veteran entrepreneurs. Lockheed Martin also made a financial commitment in 2011, when Syracuse University launched the IVMF, making it the Institute's first One-Star Corporate Partner.
"Lockheed Martin is proud to be a partner of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families here in Syracuse, New York," said Greg Larioni, Lockheed Martin's vice president and general manager of Radar Sensor Systems. "As a company we employ more than 22,000 veterans and we recognize the critical mission of the IVMF to provide the necessary resources for veterans and their families to succeed. We are very excited to build on our nearly 10-year history with the IVMF and Syracuse University through this partnership and we are looking forward to seeing the Institute continue to thrive."
