LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 21, 2016) - Music lovers all over the world are joining together and lending their voices in celebration of the 6th Annual Playing For Change Day on September 24, 2016. On this occasion, musicians and fans will gather on stages, street corners, schools and via live-streams to participate in global, simultaneous performances, concerts and events promoting world peace and positive social change.

Engaging hundreds of thousands of fans, artists and humanitarians in support of the global Playing For Change Movement, Playing For Change Day will unite communities through musical arts while raising awareness and resources for educational programs worldwide. Proceeds from the event directly support Playing For Change Foundation's free music education programs, providing children around the world the opportunity to develop creative skills and discover personal expression through the arts.

The event builds on the success of Playing For Change Day 2015, which drew thousands of volunteers organizing more than 300 synchronized events in 52 countries on six continents. "People in every corner of the world will be able to participate in this memorable day by hosting, attending or performing at an event on September 24," said John McKenna, Executive Director of Playing For Change Foundation. "Playing For Change Day is the moment for the human race to unite in song, and invest in our children across the planet."

Playing For Change, led by Co-Founders Mark Johnson and Whitney Kroenke, arose from the universal belief that music can connect people across circumstances, challenges and cultural differences. In 2002, a small group of filmmakers set out with a mobile recording studio in search of inspiration and the heartbeat of the human race on the streets. The first music video production, "Stand By Me," combined 35 musicians from 10 countries who had never met in person. The phenomenon swept across the world, with "Stand By Me" being viewed over 100 million times online.

The Playing For Change Movement has since attracted hundreds of global artists including Sara Bareilles, Jimmy Buffett, Bono, David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Ziggy Marley, Keb Mo and Keith Richards, in addition to street musicians from 47 countries who have participated in PFC video recordings.

Those unable to attend a Playing For Change event will have the opportunity to participate via social media with the hashtags #PFCDay #iplayforchange or watching select performances streamed live online. Artists and advocates interested in joining Playing For Change Day can visit pfcday.org to create an event or learn more about advancing the mission.
