Cincinnati Bell Inc. named Independent Operator of the Year

CINCINNATI, July 27, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cablefax, a nationally recognized trade publication, has named Cincinnati Bell Inc. (NYSE:CBB) its 2016 Independent Operator of the Year. The recognition reflects Cincinnati Bell’s transformation from a legacy telephone company into a fiber-based technology and entertainment company that serves consumers and business customers across Greater Cincinnati and beyond.

In determining the award, Cablefax noted Cincinnati Bell’s ongoing investment into fiber across Greater Cincinnati; the successful introduction of its skinny bundle called “MyTV”; and its “Light Up Cincinnati” initiative, which is connecting people in new ways through a network of free, high-speed WiFi networks and the Connect Cincinnati mobile app.

“Cincinnati Bell has been connecting its customers to what matters for 143 years through our technology,” said Christi Cornette, senior vice president of marketing at Cincinnati Bell. “We are proud of the Cablefax recognition and will continue innovating on behalf of our customers and the community.”

“As a smaller operator, it would be understandable if Cincinnati Bell took a wait-and-see approach in the marketplace. Instead, it’s making bold moves that establish it as a leader, forging ahead with a unique mobile app and flexible video packaging,” said Amy Maclean, editorial director of Cablefax. “Cincinnati Bell may have been founded in 1873, but there’s nothing old school about it.”

Cincinnati Bell has recently launched several high-profile initiatives.

  • The “MyTV” skinny bundle addresses the ongoing transformation in content distribution and consumption that is challenging the long-term viability of “traditional” cable bundles. “MyTV” allows customers to create more customized content bundles and provides significant flexibility, choice and value. The product launched in the spring.

  • The Connect Cincinnati mobile app launched in summer 2015, and has attracted 85,000 users to date who can access great offers from more than 150 local businesses and organizations across Greater Cincinnati that are participating in the mobile app’s ecosystem. Cincinnati Bell customers who sign into the app get additional deals and offers.

  • The Connect Cincinnati mobile app also serves as a gateway to the company’s expanding network of free, high-speed WiFi hotspots at some of Greater Cincinnati’s most popular venues. The mobile app and hot spots are part of Cincinnati Bell’s “Light Up Cincinnati” initiative.

Driving this innovation is Cincinnati Bell’s fiber network, which Cornette said gives the company a powerful platform to meet customers’ future needs. The Fiber to the Home Council Americas recently honored Cincinnati Bell with its Star Award, which recognizes “a person, community or company that has gone above and beyond what is expected in the advancement of fiber to the home.”

“We believe the fastest pipe to the home and business wins,” Cornette said. “Fiber is what allows us to bring products like ‘MyTV’ and the Connect Cincinnati mobile app to market, and earn recognition from respected industry experts like Cablefax.”
