ALISO VIEJO, CA--(Marketwired - Aug 2, 2016) - OCTANe, Orange County's life science and technology accelerator organization, and MassMEDIC, a regional medical device cluster group, today announced that they have initiated a strategic program to build greater awareness of emerging medtech companies among investors in both Orange County and Boston.
The initiative will provide leading and viable start-up companies based in Orange County with introductions to interested venture capital firms, angel networks, family foundations, and strategic funders. Initially, OCTANe and MassMEDIC will share business plan summaries with active medtech investors located in Orange County and Boston. Future projects will focus on remote investor presentations, facilitated delegation visits and participation in the respective organizations' annual investors conference.
"This relationship with MassMEDIC is a perfect reflection of OCTANe's mission to connect people and ideas with resources and capital," said Bill Carpou, CEO of OCTANe. "By providing this resource to early-stage companies based in Orange County, we will ultimately help continue to shape the thriving medtech ecosystem that already exists here; creating a channel for investment capital to a leading region."
California and Massachusetts boast vibrant medical device clusters, employing thousands of highly skilled workers, who develop and produce some of the most innovative medical products available in the global health care marketplace. Both regions are among the leading medical technology states and are home to key elements of medtech development: investment capital; skilled workers; and world-class medical research.
"This program will increase the exposure of our region's medtech start-ups to a new community of investors interested in new opportunities," said Thomas J. Sommer, president of MassMEDIC. "Investors in both regions will learn more about the exciting new medical technologies being developed in our clusters, which will accelerate the growth of these innovative, job-producing companies," Sommer added.
