JACKSONVILLE, FL--(Marketwired - August 16, 2016) - Florida East Coast Railway (FECR) President & CEO James R. Hertwig will be honored with the Silver Kingpin award from the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) for his many contributions and career accomplishments within the intermodal industry.
The Silver Kingpin award is given to recognize an individual's long-term contribution to the industry and is one of the intermodal industry's most prestigious. The award was initiated in 1977.
"This is truly an honor to receive such a respected award for the intermodal industry and I sincerely appreciate and value the recognition from IANA," said James R. Hertwig, President and CEO FECR.
Hertwig led the FECR team in preparing for the post-Panamax era, following the opening of the Panama Canal opening. "Our team's work with the South Florida ports has resulted in the state's preparedness for the expected influx of cargo coming through the canal," said Hertwig. The FECR team re-established on-dock intermodal rail service at PortMiami and near dock intermodal rail service at Port Everglades allowing import and export cargo to be loaded directly onto, or off of, awaiting trains, linking these ports to 70% of the U.S population in 4 days or less. In addition Hertwig was appointed to a Technical Peer Review Panel of the U.S. Maritime Administration's study of the Panama Canal expansion because of his extensive knowledge and expertise.
Jim and the FECR team have worked successfully to build the domestic business on FECR as well. With a relentless focus on scheduled on time performance, by providing containers, chassis, and door-to-door capability, the FECR team provides a variety of quality solutions to the domestic marketplace. The recent roll out of EZ Buy is just one example of how the FECR team, under Mr. Hertwig, works across functions to exceed customer expectations.
Hertwig's career has spanned more than 45 years in freight transportation. Prior to joining FECR in 2010, Hertwig served as president of CSX Intermodal, Inc. and as president of Landstar Logistics. He has also held positions as president and CEO of Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation and chairman and CEO of Red Arrow Freight Lines, two large regional LTL carriers. Before that, Hertwig served as president and CEO of Con-Way Intermodal, a multimodal truckload service provider.
