Wärtsilä appoints Marco Ryan to lead digital development

Wärtsilä has appointed Mr Marco Ryan (50) as Chief Digital Officer & Executive Vice President, and a member of the Board of Management of Wärtsilä Corporation, effective from 26 September 2016. He will report to President & CEO Mr Jaakko Eskola and be based in Helsinki, Finland. Mr Ryan has a Bachelor of Science degree in CIS Management.

Wärtsilä is strongly focused on digitalising its operations and customer offering. In this new position, Mr Ryan is to define, develop and execute Wärtsilä's digital strategy, organisational blue print, and related digital governance in close collaboration with the CEO and the Board of Management. He will also lead the Information Management (IM) organisation, which is today made up of more than 200 persons globally.

Marco Ryan is an experienced digital transformation executive. He has a solid international track record in creating and implementing digital strategies in both consumer and B-2-B businesses, with work experience in the UK, USA, Middle East, Asia and Europe. His latest positions include those of Chief Digital Officer at Thomas Cook Group plc in the UK, Partner & Managing Director at Accenture Interactive (ASEAN) in Singapore, and Senior Vice President, Group Head of eCommerce and Innovation at Premier Farnell Plc in the UK.
