TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - September 07, 2016) - Today, WE Day -- a series of inspiring stadium-sized life-changing events that take place around the world, alongside Title sponsor, RBC -- is proud to announce its inaugural WE Day Family. On October 19, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. ET at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, WE Day Family will feature inspirational speakers, world-renowned performers and presenters, sharing their personal stories of leadership and triumph. Special guests include Nelly Furtado, Paula Abdul, Rick Hansen, Margaret Trudeau, Mia Farrow, Chris Hadfield, and Joe Roberts with more speakers and surprise award-winning performers still to be announced. This star-studded lineup will join WE co-founders, and brothers, Craig and Marc Kielburger, to share their passion for change and energize the crowd with unforgettable performances and motivational speeches.
WE Day is part of WE -- a movement that brings people together and gives them the tools to change the world locally and globally, achieving transformative outcomes for themselves and others. WE has been empowering young people to transform communities at home and around the globe for over 20 years -- now the movement is empowering families across the country to live WE at Home. WE Day Family is designed to help families bring the power of change into their homes by bonding around causes that truly matter, raising caring and compassionate children, and to setting them on a path for success.
"Being a part of the WE movement is very dear to my heart -- having traveled to Kenya to support female empowerment initiatives, I've seen what this movement can do firsthand and am excited to share this world of opportunity with mothers, fathers, sons, daughters and more at WE Day Family next month," said singer, songwriter, producer and WE ambassador, Nelly Furtado. "As a mother, I am so thrilled that WE Day Family will give families that chance to spend time with one another and start the conversations on social issues that they are passionate about, creating lasting, impactful memories."
WE Day Family will also spotlight families from all walks of life who have made an impact in their communities and around the world, like Hani Al Moulia's family. Syrian refugee, Hani Al Moulia, although legally blind, he is an accomplished photographer, promising student, and is an example of achievement in the face of adversity. Alongside his parents and siblings, the Al Moulia family made the dangerous and uncertain trek from the Syrian city of Homs to Canada. Arriving in Canada in June 2015, Hani now shares the photographs of his family's journey to their new home in Regina, Saskatchewan, in hopes that families will embrace the power of togetherness. Hani is one of many who will be sharing their incredible story on the WE Day Family Stage.
WE Day Family will be filled with stories of empathy, compassion, responsibility and service that will impact families beyond the live evening event. WE Day Family will show parents and children how they can live WE at home through WE Families, a program that offers inspiration, advice and family-fun activities to help empower families to make a difference in the world.
"WE has been empowering young people to change the world for over two decades and we have seen first-hand through impacts that change is possible," said Marc Kielburger, WE co-founder and co-author of the book The World Needs Your Kid, which he wrote with his brother Craig Kielburger. "Raising caring and compassionate children is a family affair. Together at WE Day Family, we want to support families as they begin their journey to live WE at Home. Using the right tools and resources, families can stand together as they find their voice and say, 'We can make a difference in the world.'"
Responsible for bringing WE Day Family to Toronto, Title sponsor RBC is dedicated to inspiring people to create change and make the world a better place. With the support of RBC, WE Day Family provides parents the advice and tools they need to raise socially conscious children.
The official WE Day Family co-chairs include Group Publisher, TVA Publications Sandra Martin, Mastermind Chief Merchant & Co-Founder, CEO, Jonathan Levy and CEO of Ehm & Co and YummyMummyClub.ca Erica Ehm.
