Harsch Investment Properties Opens Newly Acquired Former Bank Building for Pendleton Round-Up Arts/Culture Pop-Up Gallery

Native American Art Exhibitions by Crow's Shadow Institute and Tastings From Eastern Oregon Wineries Will Add Excitement to the Rodeo

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwired - Sep 14, 2016) - Jordan Schnitzer, President of Portland, Ore.-headquartered Harsch Investment Properties, announces the company will open its recently acquired former bank branch building in the heart of Downtown Pendleton as a unique cultural "pop-up" destination during the city's popular rodeo Round-Up and Happy Canyon Week (Sept. 14-17). Pop-up features will include an exhibition of Native American art from the collection of Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts (CSIA) and tastings from celebrated Eastern Oregon wineries.

CSIA is located on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in the foothills of Oregon's Blue Mountains. Crow's Shadow is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization formed in 1992 by local artists James Lavadour (Chinook and Walla Walla) and Phillip Cash Cash (Cayuse and Nez Perce). Its mission is to provide a creative conduit for educational, social, and economic opportunities for Native Americans through artistic development. The Crow's Shadow Pop-Up Gallery will feature a variety of works from its permanent collection, including prominent regional, contemporary Native American artists such as James Lavadour and Wendy Red Star, and local artists including Whitney Minthorn, Susan Sheoships, and Jeremy Red Star Wolf.

"We're lucky to have support from print collectors nationwide. Jordan is chief among them," said Karl Davis, executive director of CSIA. "Crow's Shadow is a center for creativity on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. We bring amazing people together to share their art and spirit. This pop-up gallery gives us the chance to share that creativity with an even bigger audience during this year's Round-Up."

Also included at the unique Pendleton pop-up destination are tastings from award-winning wineries (Umatilla-River-vicinity) Echo Ridge Cellars and (Milton-Freewater area) Don Carlo Vineyard.

"Don Carlo is excited to be part of the art walk and wine tasting event this year. We feel it is important to have a presence at local events and look forward to meeting new friends and sampling our wine," said Tim Kennedy, of Don Carlo Vineyard.

Kim Bales, of Echo Ridge Cellars, said, "We are honored and excited to be part of the Pendleton Round-Up this year. Opening up our tasting room in the nearby town of Echo has been rewarding, and the support from the surrounding cities has been amazing. Thank you to Pat Beard from Travel Pendleton for believing in us and our wines."

Future plans for the 9,500-square-foot former bank have not been announced, but Schnitzer said he bought the building, which sat idle for years, to give back to Pendleton. This latest commitment complements a long-history of giving back to the Eastern Oregon community. Past involvement has included setting up a college scholarship though the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation for members of the Pendleton Round-Up Court and Happy Canyon Princesses, as well as contributing to the historic building renovation that allowed creation of the Pendleton Center for the Arts.

"Jordan really is committed to Pendleton, and it means a lot to us to have that support. He's made a lot of friends and connections here, to really get to know us," said Pat Beard, of Travel Pendleton. "This pop-up is a terrific addition to the Round-Up week. In recent years, the event has become more eclectic. We have so much art, music and culture in Pendleton to share, and the pop-up gallery is perfect for us."
