Established in 1911, the Tidewater Council believes the values of Scouting have directly influenced hundreds of thousands of lives right here in the Hampton Roads community. Today, the council serves thousands of youth through crews, packs, posts, ships, teams and troops. For every 100 boys who join Scouting, 18 will develop a hobby that will last through their adult lives, eight will enter a vocation that was learned through the merit badge system, and at least one will use his Scouting skills to save his own life or someone else’s. The Boy Scout Golf Classic helps to raise financial support for local children involved in Scouting.

“We believe in empowering our youth,” said Richard Ottinger, 2016 Boy Scout Golf Chair. “This event is just one way we offer the community a chance to have fun, while raising funds for programs designed to educate our children and prepare them for life.”

This year, the goal is to raise $30,000 at the event; with the help from sponsors such as John Fain, Portfolio Recovery Associates, Norfolk Southern and Southern Automotive Group, the organization is well on its way. Registration for the tournament will begin at 10:30 a.m. and tee time is at 12:00 p.m. Entrance fees are $250 per player, and include lunch, greens fees, range balls and cart fees. All proceeds benefit the Boy Scouts of America Tidewater Council. “We are grateful for the support of our sponsors, the players and volunteers to help make this event the best it’s ever been,” added Ottinger.

There is still time to register a foursome, to sign-up visit http://TidewaterBSA.com/Golf-Classic/.
