NEW YORK, Oct. 13, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Manhattan Institute will host its annual Social Entrepreneurship Awards ceremony and dinner in New York on October 24, at which it will again recognize the leaders of organizations who have developed original approaches to helping those in need. This year's winners include those encouraging minority entrepreneurship, resettling refugee children, caring for the homebound elderly, and empowering inner-city residents to fight crime on their streets.
The $25,000 Richard Cornuelle Award for Social Entrepreneurship, designed to recognize entrepreneurs across the country who are working toward innovative solutions to our nation's most pressing social problems, will be awarded to four organizations which share a commitment to helping those in need.
Advocates for Community Transformation, a Dallas-based nonprofit, works with homeowners, courts, and local police to drive out havens of crime that cast a shadow over neighborhoods. Fugees Family of Clarkston, Georgia, works with refugees, educating their children and helping them integrate into their new country. New Jersey's Rising Tide Capital works with small entrepreneurs to improve their businesses and transform their communities. Coming Home Connection, based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, fills in the gaps in the healthcare system by training volunteers to provide free in-home care and personal support to vulnerable populations like the home-bound elderly, uninsured, and veterans.

This year's $100,000 William E. Simon Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Social Entrepreneurship honors Chris Anderson, a man who has committed his life to using the power of ideas to tackle tough global issues. As the Curator of TED, a nonprofit global media initiative devoted to "ideas worth spreading," Anderson has enabled the TED stage to become a place for people from all fields to share their ideas and work.
