TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Oct. 13, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Foundation for Excellence in Education today announced leading education innovators Sal Khan and David Coleman will address the 2016 National Summit on Education Reform on Friday, December 2 in Washington, D.C.
Sal Khan is the founder and chief executive officer of Khan Academy; David Coleman is the president and chief executive officer of the College Board.
Khan Academy is a free online learning platform with more than 43 million registered users. In addition to subjects like math, science, grammar and history, the Mountain View, Calif.-based nonprofit offers personalized SAT test prep in partnership with the College Board.
Mr. Coleman is the ninth president of the College Board, which helps more than seven million students prepare for college through programs such as Advanced Placement and the SAT. In 2013, he was named to Time magazine's annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
"Less than two years ago, the College Board and Khan Academy announced a partnership to revolutionize the way students practice for the SAT," said Mr. Coleman. "Since then, we've seen more than 2.2 million students from all backgrounds using free, personalized Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy. Together we're leveling the playing field and showing what's possible when you offer a fair, clear path to college opportunity and success."
"Khan Academy's mission is to provide a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere," said Mr. Khan. "Working with the College Board has given us a new way to reach millions of students and give them a free online resource to practice and prepare for the SAT."
Sal Khan has been profiled by 60 Minutes and featured on the cover of Forbes. In his book, The One World Schoolhouse: Education Reimagined, Mr. Khan outlines his vision for the future of education.
Now in its ninth year, the summit will be held in Washington, D.C. from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2 at the Marriott Marquis Washington, D.C. ExcelinEd Founder and Chairman Governor Jeb Bush will open the summit with a morning keynote address on Thursday, December 1. The two-day event will feature general sessions with nationally renowned speakers plus strategy sessions featuring policy experts, legislators and education leaders discussing topics ranging from personalized learning and educational choice to solutions for states implementing the Every Student Succeeds Act. This unique gathering is a one-stop shop for state policymakers and education leaders who want a comprehensive overview of all elements of education reform. The goal is to share lessons learned across states and arm leaders with the knowledge and know-how to champion all students in every classroom.
"Sal Khan and David Coleman are two of this nation's leading thinkers, innovators and transformative 'doers' in K-12 education," said ExcelinEd CEO Patricia Levesque. "In different ways, each has approached the mission of providing opportunity to every child in every classroom. We are thrilled to have them share their wisdom, insight and experience with those attending this unique event."
Last year's National Summit was attended by more than 900 education leaders from 45 states and D.C.
