NCC has been commissioned by the Swedish Transport Administration to remodel Route 26/47 between Månseryd and Mullsjö, northeast of Jönköping, into a 2+1 express road with median barrier. The project is being carried out to improve safety and accessibility on the road. The order is worth SEK 349 million. “Finally we can start building an express road with a median barrier to improve safety on the road accessibility for all travelers,” says Carina Junefelt at the Swedish Transport Administration. The section of road between Månseryd and Mullsjö, measuring a total distance of 17 km, is not fitted with a median barrier, is narrow and has a poor grade and profile standard. During the winter months, the steep inclines sometime cause transport problems for primarily heavy traffic. The road will be remodeled to feature a 2+1 layout with a median barrier and a speed limit of 100 km/h. “NCC has extensive experience of similar road projects and we are looking forward to starting the assignment and improving the standard of this important section of road, while also contributing to regional development in which sustainable roads play a key role,” says Svante Hagman, Business Area Manager, NCC Infrastructure. A local road will also be built alongside the entire remodeled section for pedestrians and cyclists, and slow-moving traffic. It will also be possible to use the local road for diversions when necessary. The start of construction is planned for spring 2017 and the road will be fully completed in autumn 2019. The transaction will be registered during the fourth quarter of 2016 in the NCC Infrastructure business area.
