CHICAGO, Dec. 6, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Captain Robert M. Taft, DDS, FACP, has been installed as President-Elect of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) for a one-year term that will ascend to the role of President in late 2017. Captain Taft was sworn in during the 46th Annual Session of the ACP held in San Diego from October 5-8, 2016.
Captain Taft served as Dean of the Naval Postgraduate Dental School and Specialty Leader to the Surgeon General for Postgraduate Dental Education from June 2006 to June 2011, Deputy Chief, United States Navy Dental Corps from June 2011 to June 2013 and is currently Department Chair, Prosthodontics, at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School.
Captain Taft has been a dedicated ACP member for 26 years, and is committed to the service of his patients and the continued progress of Prosthodontists within the ACP. Captain Taft is a Diplomate, Board Examiner, and President of the American Board of Prosthodontics, Fellow and a member on the Board of Directors of the American College of Prosthodontists, Fellow of the Academy of Prosthodontics, Past President of the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics, National Prosthodontics Awareness Task Force Committee member, Director of Advancing Digital Technology North America, Commission on Dental Prosthodontics Review Committee, and past Specialty Leader to the Surgeon General for Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Implant Dentistry. Captain Taft was recently awarded with the Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics' (AAMP) Andrew J. Ackerman Award for 2016. The award is dedicated to the memory of one of the pioneers of modern day maxillofacial Prosthetics and an original founding father of the AAMP, Dr. Andrew Ackerman. Dr. Ackerman was the first recipient of the award named in his honor presented 1 year posthumously in 1961. Since that time, the award has been presented 33 times to honor the individuals who have distinguished themselves in the specialty and who have admirably served the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics.
