SAN MATEO, Calif., Dec. 13, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WageWorks, Inc. (NYSE: WAGE), a leader in administering Consumer-Directed Benefits (CDBs), today announced the expansion of its partnership with Uber that allows commuters to pay for uberPOOL rides using pre-tax funds from their WageWorks Commuter accounts. Building on the success of the initial offering, which began in New York City in August 2016, Uber and WageWorks have expanded their partnership to major metropolitan cities including Boston and Washington D.C. with San Francisco, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Denver, Atlanta, Miami and the state of New Jersey to follow effective tomorrow, December 14, 2016.
“WageWorks is always looking for new ways to broaden the use of pre-tax commuter benefits in order to improve convenience and save people more money on their commute. Adding more cities to our uberPOOL offering does just that,” said Dan Neuburger, President of WageWorks Commuter Services. “Our first-in-kind partnership with Uber has helped commuters in New York City save more on their daily commutes and will now help even more working Americans as we expand to other cities.”
The future of pre-tax benefits and the on-the-go rideshare economy are converging and WageWorks and Uber are at the forefront of the movement. The initial offering in New York City marked the first time that Uber has partnered with a CDB administrator to leverage pre-tax Commuter Benefits for rides to and from work. With uberPOOL, employees enrolled in WageWorks Commuter Benefits in Boston, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Denver, Atlanta, Miami and throughout the state of New Jersey will also have even more transit options available to them.
“The expansion of this partnership is a result of the success we saw in New York, and we’re excited to continue to make our riders’ commutes even easier in more U.S. cities. By allowing our riders to use pre-tax benefits to pay for their uberPOOL commute, we’re continuing to get people in fewer cars, while making their daily commutes more affordable,” said Ronak Trivedi, Product Manager, uberPOOL.
As of today, the use of WageWorks Commuter Benefits is currently available to uberPOOL commuters in New York, Boston, and Washington D.C. San Francisco, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Denver, Atlanta, Miami and the state of New Jersey will launch December 14, 2016 and additional uberPOOL cities will follow in the future.
