New On-Campus C-Arm Unit Gives COD Radiography Students State-of-the-Art Training

GLEN ELLYN, Ill., Dec. 16, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Students in the College of DuPage’s Diagnostic Medical Imaging Radiography (DMIR) program now have access to even more high-tech equipment with the recent purchase of a Model C Arm Fluoroscopic Unit. The equipment is standard in the field but many students don’t see the unit on campus or when completing clinical work.

“In a clinical setting, oftentimes students don’t get the experience of running some of the equipment because of the fast-paced nature of the hospital setting,” said Sue Bertellotti, DMIR assistant professor. “Having a C-Arm unit in a learning lab on our campus allows our students to practice in a stress-free environment, giving them valuable experience they need to enter the workforce.”

The College’s DMIR program educates students with didactic, laboratory and clinical experience to prepare them for work in the field. Students must demonstrate competency to meet state licensing and/or certification requirements, making hands-on classroom and lab experience all the more valuable. Over the last five years, the program has had a 96 percent pass rate of the ARRT credentialing exam.

The Radiography application deadline is March 1 of each year and enrollment is by selected admission only. Admission to College of DuPage does not guarantee acceptance into the Radiography program.
