PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 06, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SEI (NASDAQ:SEIC) and The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts today announced the latest pieces of art from the West Collection to be displayed in the Kimmel Center’s Commonwealth Plaza. Guests can now enjoy “After Vermeer 2,” a creation by artist Devorah Sperber. Sperber is known for her work using thousands of spools of thread to create pixilated versions of iconic works of art by famous artists. Created using 5,024 spools of thread, a stainless steel ball chain and hanging apparatus, along with a clear acrylic viewing sphere, “After Vermeer 2” is modelled after the acclaimed painting by Johannes Vermeer, “Girl with the Pearl Earning.”

“We are thrilled to share ‘After Vermeer 2,’ a West Collection favorite, with the Kimmel Center and their guests,” said Alfred P. West, Jr., Chairman and CEO of SEI. “The piece is beloved by SEI employees and visitors alike and we are excited for others to have the opportunity to enjoy such powerful and dynamic artwork.”

Looking to the spring, the internationally-recognized artist Julian Opie will feature his “You are in a Landscape” sculptures in the Plaza. This collection of true-to-size cut-outs are glossy representations of a red car, an office worker, and oak and cypress trees, and are so simply rendered that they almost appear as generic. However, Opie creates tension in his work by working between the simple reduced images and how the viewer specifically recognizes and identifies with the objects and paintings.

This year’s installations also include a permanent mural by Yis “Nosego” Goodwin. The mural has been painted directly on the hallway walls leading to the SEI Innovation Studio. Nosego is a Philadelphia-based artist quickly gaining national and international recognition for his vibrant and eclectic pieces. The artist, whose work is inspired by his environment and the connectivity of the elements within it, believes that each element or object that builds a creature is something from its journey, and illustrates this theme throughout all of his compositions. The mural compares the ferocity of wild animals with the serenity of natural backdrops.

“We could not be more excited about our most recent collaborations with SEI and the West Collection,” said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. "Nosego’s creative energy is infectious and comes through in this one-of-a kind piece. This vibrant mural graces the entrance to our SEI Innovation Studio and is the first mural from the West Collection to be featured at the Kimmel Center. Nosego’s mural and the newest Plaza installation are the perfect complement to the artistic experience we hope every patron enjoys on our Campus."

The Kimmel Center and SEI were awarded the 2015 “Business + Arts Partnership Award” by the Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia, commending the partners for their commitment to making the region culturally vibrant and economically strong.

Note to editors: Photos of the artwork, as well as a video of Nosego creating the mural, are attached to this release.
