Hausfeld Names Alex Petrasincu Partner and Will Open Second German Office in Dusseldorf

Hausfeld’s new Dusseldorf office and the appointment of Alex Petrasincu as partner responds to client demand and market opportunities

BERLIN, Feb. 16, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hausfeld, a leading law firm in the area of competition damages claims and other complex proceedings, has today announced that it will be opening a Dusseldorf office in the summer of 2017 and that it has appointed Alex Petrasincu as partner based in the Dusseldorf and Berlin offices.

Dusseldorf will be Hausfeld’s second German office, and ninth overall. The firm, headquartered in Washington, DC, already has offices in Berlin, Brussels, Boston, London, New York, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.

The new office in Dusseldorf will be headed by Mr. Petrasincu, who will divide his time between Berlin and Dusseldorf.

Mr. Petrasincu, who works in Hausfeld’s competition practice, joined the firm’s Berlin office in 2016. He has played a leading role in several of the firm’s competition matters, in particular the trucks cartel, numerous car parts cartels, and a case against German banking associations.

Prior to joining Hausfeld in 2016, Alex was European Counsel in the competition team of Jones Day in Düsseldorf, having previously worked at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in Cologne and Brussels.  Mr. Petrasincu is admitted to practice in Germany and in New York.

Mr. Petrasincu has vast experience in virtually all aspects of European and German competition law. He specialises in representing claimants and defendants in cartel damages actions. He has advised and represented clients in numerous proceedings before German Regional Courts, Courts of Appeals, the German Federal Constitutional Court, and the Court of Justice of the European Union.  Mr. Petrasincu also has significant experience in conducting internal cartel investigations and in defending parties to cartel investigations carried out by the European Commission, the German Federal Cartel Office, and other European competition authorities.  He is a frequent speaker on these and other issues.

“We are thrilled to count Alex Petrasincu among our partners. Alex’s sharp legal skills and insights are assets to our clients, as is his experience representing companies as claimants and defendants in cartel damages actions and cartel investigations by the European Commission and the German Federal Cartel Office. Since its opening at the beginning of 2016, our Berlin  office has grown by leaps and bounds. The opening of an office in Dusseldorf led by Alex is the logical next step given that many of our clients are located nearby and that Dusseldorf is a center of antitrust law in Germany,” said firm Chairman Michael D. Hausfeld.

Christopher Rother, Managing Partner of Hausfeld Germany, comments: “We are delighted that Alex has joined our partnership and that we are increasing our German footprint with the opening of a new office in Dusseldorf. Alex has expanded our expertise and contributed greatly to our core competition practice and many early successes.”

The Berlin office opened on January 1, 2016 in order to meet growing demand from German clients for Hausfeld’s services. The increased demand arose in the wake of substantial activity from the European Commission and the German Federal Cartel Office, the adoption of the European Directive on Competition Damages Actions, and Hausfeld’s leading reputation for such claims both in London and across Europe.
