LEXINGTON, Mass., May 16, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- swyMed, a provider of exceptional-quality video telemedicine solutions, and Bassett Healthcare Network today announced that they have joined forces to allow for highly reliable video telemedicine encounters within Bassett Healthcare’s 15 School-Based Health Centers (SBHC). Bassett Healthcare’s SBHCs are medical offices located within school buildings, in partnership between school districts and their six network hospitals and 46 regional health centers. Under the terms of the agreement, swyMed is providing Bassett Healthcare’s SBHCs with the advanced networking infrastructure capabilities to allow for real-time video telemedicine encounters between area students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 and medical staff.
Bassett Healthcare, based in Cooperstown, New York, serves a 6000 square mile area, which includes some of the most economically disadvantaged populations nationally. Within this region, schools were faced with challenges related to the reliability of its communications network which created a substantial barrier for entry when it came to telemedicine adoption. Bassett Healthcare recognized the value that real-time video encounters would bring to SBHC’s specialist consultations (including behavioral monitoring) and partnered with swyMed to make the necessary software upgrades to overcome previous connectivity issues including bandwidth limitations and high latency.
swyMed’s patented data transport protocol enables the delivery of exceptional-quality audio and video where most other platforms simply cannot maintain a connection. It is fully secure and provides unparalleled interoperability with existing EMRs, PACS and certified third-party diagnostic equipment, allowing Bassett Healthcare to easily integrate the platform within existing workflows and work with multiple cameras and medical devices during real-time video telemedicine encounters, all from a single, intuitive interface.
As a result of this initiative between Bassett Healthcare and swyMed, young patients are receiving reliable access to the healthcare services and support they require via real-time video telemedicine encounters, eliminating the need for students and parents to lose a few hours of school or work traveling to area hospitals for treatment.
“swyMed’s solutions were built around the need to create highly reliable wireless connections to allow for live telemedicine consults in areas where bandwidths are limited at best,” said Stefano Migliorisi, CEO of swyMed. “We are honored to collaborate with Bassett Healthcare’s School-Based Health Centers to ensure that area students have access to high quality real-time video interactions, and as a result, the medical treatment and services they require.”
