Allison Bethel Becomes Chair of ISBA Committee on Legal Education, Admission and Competence

Chicago, June 05, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Clinical Professor Allison K. Bethel, director of John Marshall’s Fair Housing Legal Support Center & Clinic, has become chair of the Illinois State Bar Association’s Legal Education, Admissions and Competence Standing Committee.

The Committee’s mission is to study all phases of preparatory and legal education requirements for admission to the bar and standards for bar examinations, and to review continuing legal education, competence, and lawyer skills and make recommendations for change.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me to lead this great Committee. We are examining reforms in legal education designed to increase practical skills training, the debt burden, admissions practices and continuing legal education issues. The ISBA has been a leader in supporting innovative initiatives in these areas and I look forward to building upon the wonderful work of this Committee and our outgoing Chair, Dan Thies. I welcome suggestions from members and others interested in our work."

The ISBA is the premier voluntary bar association in Illinois with more than 30,000 members.

Bethel has been involved with the Committee for the last five years, last year serving as its Vice-Chair.

John Marshall’s Fair Housing Legal Support Center & Clinic is dedicated to educating the public about fair housing law and providing legal assistance to private or public organizations that seek to eliminate discriminatory housing practices.
