  • Bio-on will make its natural and 100% biodegradable bioplastic, Minerv PHAs, available free of charge to researchers, inventors and scientists who think they can change the world and protect the environment.
  • The most innovative projects will be chosen to test and demonstrate new applications for PHAs (polyhydroxyalkanoates) to push its use beyond the limits known today.
  • Bio-on has launched a new website dedicated to "The Matter" programme, where submissions can be sent. Bio-on will respond within 30 days and will evaluate any financing for the research.

BOLOGNA, 29 June 2017 - Bio-on is challenging the research world and announcing its new programme entitled "The Matter, is how we change our world" with which the company that created Minerv PHAs, the revolutionary natural and 100% biodegradable bioplastic, wants to involve researchers, inventors and scientists from public or private institutions to discover new applications for the bioplastic. To change the world and help safeguard the planet.

"Along with "The Matter" kit, we will send out free of charge to the researchers who submit the most innovative projects the quantity of bioplastic they need for their tests," announces Marco Astorri, Chairman and CEO of Bio-on. "We believe this sends an important signal to both the scientific community and the market because our technology has obtained over 60 patents to date and has proven it can be applied in a number of sectors. We are now making it available in open source". Indeed, the various grades of PHAs bioplastic designed by Bio-on can be used in the following sectors: automotive, design, flexible or rigid packaging materials, biomedical, toys, the recent Minerv Biocosmetics, the innovative micro powder for cosmetics and the new Minerv Biorecovery, the micro powder that helps eliminate oil pollution from the seas. "Researchers at Bio-on's laboratories have amazed us in the last ten years with the extreme flexibility of application of Minerv PHAs bioplastic," explains Astorri, "but we are convinced that there are many more ways of offering the world this extraordinary material created by nature."

All the PHAs bioplastics (polyhydroxyalkanoates) developed by Bio-on are made from renewable plant sources with no competition with food supply chains. They guarantee the same thermo-mechanical properties as conventional plastics with the advantage of being 100% eco-sustainable and naturally biodegradable at ambient temperature.

Via the new website http://www.bio-on.it/thematter/ researchers are invited to submit ideas and projects using polyhydroxyalkanoates to test and demonstrate new applications and to push its use beyond the limits known today. Scientists or teams of scientists from universities, or public and private research centres can take part in the programme. Bio-on will respond within 30 days, provide selected projects with the quantity of PHAs bioplastic needed for the research and will evaluate any financing or co-financing for the research.

Bio-on S.p.A.

Bio-On S.p.A., an Italian Intellectual Property Company (IPC), operates in the bioplastic sector conducting applied research and development of modern bio-fermentation technologies in the field of eco-sustainable and completely naturally biodegradable materials. In particular, Bio-On develops industrial applications through the creation of product characterisations, components and plastic items. Since February 2015, Bio-On S.p.A. has also been operating in the development of natural and sustainable chemicals for the future. Bio-On has developed an exclusive process for the production of a family of polymers called PHAs (polyhydroxyalkanoates) from agricultural waste (including molasses and sugar cane and sugar beet syrups). The bioplastic produced in this way is able to replace the main families of traditional plastics in terms of performance, thermo-mechanical properties and versatility. Bio-On PHAs is a bioplastic that can be classified as 100% natural and completely biodegradable: this has been certified by Vincotte and by USDA (United States Department of Agriculture). The Issuer's strategy envisages the marketing of licenses for PHAs production and related ancillary services, the development of R&D (also through new collaborations with universities, research centres and industrial partners), as well as the realisation of industrial plants designed by Bio-On.
