Los Angeles, CA, July 10, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Douglas Forsyth began his biking journey across the U.S. on July 9th to raise money for Claire’s Place Foundation, a non-profit organization providing support to children and families affected by cystic fibrosis. The 3400-mile ride begins in Portland, Oregon and will end in New York City.
Douglas was inspired to take on the cycling journey to raise money for his best friend’s child, a 1st grader living with cystic fibrosis. Due to the nature of this genetic disorder the young boy takes countless medications daily and endures numerous treatments. Douglas chose Claire’s Place Foundation to be the recipient of the funds raised as the foundation provides financial support directly to children living with cystic fibrosis. Claire’s Place gives grants to families with children that have cystic fibrosis and endure the financial stress of extended hospital stays.
“Our most recent grant was made possible in part by the fundraising Douglas Forsyth is doing,” said Claire’s Place Foundation Executive Director Melissa Yeager. “The grant was given to an 11 year old boy living with cystic fibrosis who has been hospitalized four times in quick succession and the family was facing extreme financial difficulties as well as a move to a new city. Without friends and supporters like Douglas we would not be able to take the huge financial burden off the shoulders of families affected by cystic fibrosis. Thank you Douglas and everyone who is helping with Cycling America for CF! Your efforts are making a real difference in this family’s life and more!”
Douglas will ride unsupported the whole way. He plans to spend most nights under the stars by pulling a bike trailer with all the required gear. He hopes to bike an average of 125 miles per day, completing the 3400-mile ride in 27 days.
