MEDIA ADVISORY: Canada’s nurses to hold Premiers’ briefing on Maximizing Federal Mental Health Funding on July 18, 2017, in Edmonton


EDMONTON, Alberta, July 17, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) will co-host a breakfast meeting for Canada’s premiers on Tuesday July 18, 2017, from 7:00 am to 8:30 am in the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald in Edmonton.

The meeting, being held in conjunction with the Mental Health Commission of Canada and the Premier of Alberta, is entitled Access through Innovation: Maximizing Federal Mental Health Funding.

The meeting will feature two speakers who have dedicated much of their careers to improving mental health care in Canada. Hon. Michael Kirby is a former Senator and current Founding Chair of Partners for Mental Health, and Tazz Norris (a.k.a. Big Daddy Tazz) is a Canadian mental health motivational speaker.

Attendees will also hear from Hon. Rachel Notley, Premier of Alberta, Louise Bradley, President & CEO of the Mental Health Commission of Canada, and Linda Silas, President of the CFNU.

The meeting is not open to the media, but representatives will be available for comment and interviews afterward.

Silas, representatives of Canada's provincial nurses unions, Kirby, Norris and Bradley will be present and available for comment in Edmonton immediately following meeting and over the course of the Council of the Federation meetings on July 17, 18 and 19, 2017.

The Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) is Canada’s largest nurses’ organization representing nearly 200,000 nurses and student nurses. The CFNU has been advocating for national discussions on key health priorities, such as a national prescription drug plan, a comprehensive approach to long-term and continuing care, greater attention to health human resources, and federal government engagement on the future of public health care.
