Rebecca Scaife, the manager of inclusive programming for the Washington, D.C. Public School System, authored and submitted DCPS Blueprint for Inclusion: A Guide to Implementing Essential Inclusive Practices to Improve Outcomes for All Learners. Her submission essentially offers a blueprint for the school system in implementing ways, both comprehensively and step by step, in which the system can use the best inclusive practices at all levels to gain the most positive results from the students.

The scholarship, awarded to first-year law students, is designed to encourage and reward creative authorship. Communication is one of the most important parts of the legal profession, and the ability to clearly and accurately articulate a message, ideas and information to various individuals, whether they be potential clients, other attorneys, a judge or a jury, is vital to success.
To qualify for the scholarship, students must be United States citizens, enter law school in August 2017, and have written an article which has previously been published in print or digital media. The submission is judged on creativity, originality and the ability to clearly convey a complex message. Scaife, this year’s winner, will receive a $1,000 award made payable to the school which she plans to attend to help with tuition costs and other expenses.
“Law school is expensive, it’s grueling, it really takes someone dedicated to the profession not only to be accepted, but to excel and finish the work, pass the bar and actually enter the profession,” Roy said. “When we find someone this qualified, someone that we believe can make as large an impact as we think Rebecca is capable of, we feel like it’s almost a duty to help out, not just for her, but for the good of the community as a whole. It’s truly an honor to have the opportunity to contribute in any way. We wish her the best of luck in law school, and in all her endeavors.”
Roy said the firm hopes to continue the scholarship opportunity next year, as well. He said it is one of the ways he and his firm are trying to give back to the community, to ensure the future is well in hand.
