Napoli Shkolnik PLLC Partner Shayna E. Sacks Appointed to Leadership Role in Proton Pump Inhibitor Litigation

Sacks was named to the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee in the In Re: Proton-Pump Inhibitor Products Liability Litigation (MDL 2789) by United Stated District Judge Claire C. Cecchi of the District of New Jersey.

Ms. Sacks brings her substantial mass tort legal acumen and experience to the diverse group of attorneys that were selected by the Hon. Cecchi. In her role, she will oversee all currently pending individual personal injury and wrongful death cases; Napoli Shkolnik PLLC alone has over 1,000 cases.

Prescription proton pump inhibitors (PPI's) are used for controlling acid production in the stomach, which can cause heartburn and/or acid reflux. Unfortunately, many patients have experienced life-threatening side effects after taking these medications. The lawsuit alleges that as a result of ingesting defective PPI's, individuals have suffered and continue to suffer from kidney injuries including, acute interstitial nephritis, cornice kidney disease, renal failure and end stage renal disease.

As a member of the steering committee, Ms. Sacks will continue to investigate and develop the claims in this case by overseeing the coordination, preparation, and presentation of the necessary legal documentation.
