There are 620,000 World War II Veterans in the United States, men and women who fought to help free the world from tyranny. They are aging, though, and on average 372 veterans are dying every day. Many are in frail health and we are in a race against time to thank them for their service.

New England is home to 37,000 of these heroes. Massachusetts is home to the 10th largest group in the United States - 16,000 heroes reside there. Honor Flight New England is committed to bringing as many World War II Veterans as possible to visit the memorials built to honor their bravery on the front lines of a War that redefined the world. Since 2009 Honor Flight New England has launched 45 flights serving 1,621 Veterans. Brothers, husbands and wives, women who served, and prisoners of war from across New England have all been part of the moving experience of an Honor Flight. Each Veteran is accompanied by a guardian, who is often a relative.

“With The Randolph Savings Charitable Foundation’s generous grant, in the spring of 2018 we will be able to send 60 Veterans from Massachusetts and New Hampshire to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials built in their honor,” explains Joe Byron, Founder and Executive Director for Honor Flight New England. “In addition to the grant, The Foundation has also made a significant commitment to help us spread the word to let World War II Veterans know about our program and that we will be accepting applications for the spring flight.”

World War II Veterans will be able to apply to be part of the Spring Honor Flight at any Randolph Savings Bank location during regular business hours, or over the phone by calling 1-781-573-1335 Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM and on Saturdays from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM. They will be accepting applications until December 29, 2017. Randolph Savings plans to spread the word through Veterans Services Officers, senior centers, nursing homes and assisted living facilities in cities and towns throughout eastern Massachusetts. They will also run print ads in local newspapers, and targeted mailings in areas with concentrations of World War II service men and women.

“We are grateful for this opportunity to partner with Honor Flight New England in their mission to transport our World War II heroes – the men and women who were willing to sacrifice everything for our country – to the memorials,” explains Jim McDonough, President and CEO of Randolph Savings Bank. “Supporting Honor Flight’s mission allows us to recognize their sacrifice and offer gratitude for their service.”
