Azul Systems Brings Java to Qualcomm Centriq 2400 to Address Cloud-Based Services on Serverless Architecture

Delivers Open Source Zulu Enterprise Supporting Java SE for Qualcomm Centriq 2400-powered Cloud Datacenter Workloads

TheGlassHouse, SAN JOSE, CA, Nov. 08, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

Azul Systems (Azul), the award-winning leader in Java runtime solutions, today joined Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies, Inc., to highlight the availability of its full open source Java on servers using the Qualcomm Centriq™ 2400 server processor. Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies, Inc. is a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated. This collaboration delivers to the market an enterprise-grade open source Java solution that has met the criteria of OpenJDK Technology Kit for the latest Java release on the Linux operating systems, while satisfying key industry benchmarks such as SPECjvm008 and SPECjbb2015.

The Qualcomm Centriq 2400 server processor is designed for servers supporting Cloud-based workloads. Azul is working with Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies to make available and provide commercial support for its Zulu builds of OpenJDK running on Qualcomm Centriq 2400-based servers.  Having Azul’s Zulu certified OpenJDK build tested and optimized on the Qualcomm Centriq 2400 processor further facilitates customers’ ability to innovate and develop for Arm-based datacenters that are driven on microservices applications.  Engineers and developers who design or maintain Java-based systems can now harness the high core count, high performance and power efficiency of the Qualcomm Centriq 2400 processor to drive architectural innovation in the datacenter.

“Java is an essential language to an open source ecosystem,” said Ram Peddibhotla, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies. “Runtimes such as Java are the go-to frameworks for developers writing cloud native micro-services oriented applications. We are pleased to collaborate with Azul to enable Java based scale-out software through Zulu builds of OpenJDK running on the Qualcomm Centriq 2400”.

Java remains the most popular and important language supporting today’s businesses, and has been for 15+ years as shown by the Tiobe Index, https://www.tiobe.com/tiobe-index/.  In addition, Java powers essential infrastructure software used by global enterprises, including Apache projects like Kafka, Lucene, Elastic, Solr, Cassandra, Hadoop, Netty and thousands more.

“Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies’ decision to collaborate with Azul highlights the value and importance of open source Java for Cloud workloads”, said Scott Sellers, Azul Systems president and CEO. “Azul’s Zulu builds of OpenJDK are the trusted and preferred open source Java development and runtime kits for developers and enterprises worldwide.  We are proud to support Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies and pleased to announce the immediate availability of Zulu Enterprise builds of OpenJDK optimized for Qualcomm Centriq 2400-based servers.”
