LAS VEGAS, Nov. 29, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ:NXPI), the leader in mass market microcontrollers (MCUs), today introduced the LPC54018 MCU-based IoT module with onboard Wi-Fi and support for newly launched Amazon FreeRTOS on Amazon Web Services (AWS) – offering developers universal connections to AWS.
Amazon FreeRTOS provides tools for users to quickly and easily deploy an MCU-based connected device and develop an IoT application without having to worry about the complexity of scaling across millions of devices. Once connected, IoT device applications can take advantage of the capabilities of the cloud or continue processing data locally with AWS Greengrass.
The cost and complexity to develop, deploy and manage secure connected nodes have continued to gate the market from realizing the true potential of the IoT. Reducing these complexities, AWS and NXP enable developers to create secure, cost-effective IoT solutions, increasing the accessibility of node-to-cloud connection for engineers.
Amazon FreeRTOS enables security-strong orchestration with the edge-cluster to further leverage low latencies in edge computing configurations, which extends AWS Greengrass core devices’ reach to the nodes. Distributed and autonomous computing architectures become possible through the consistent interface provided between the nodes and their gateways, in both online and offline scenario.
NXP’s IoT module, co-developed with Embedded Artists and based on the LPC54018 MCU, offers unlimited memory extensibility, a root of trust built on the embedded SRAM physical unclonable functions (PUF) and on-chip cryptographic accelerators. Together, LPC and Amazon FreeRTOS, with easy-to-use software libraries, bring multiple layers of network transport security, simplify cloud on-boarding and over-the-air device management, ushering in a new wave of connected devices.
“Together with AWS, we’re transforming node-to-cloud connectivity,” said Geoff Lees, senior vice president and general manager of microcontrollers at NXP. “We are committed to delivering secure, power-efficient IoT solutions – the next step of many that will reshape the market."
"Providing options for developers, as they build and deploy products on AWS, requires collaboration with market leaders,” said Satyen Yadav, General Manager of AWS IoT & Edge Device Services, Amazon Web Services, Inc. “NXP shares the passion for fostering a community of developers to drive the next wave of power-conscious, secure connected devices for the rapidly evolving IoT.
