U.S. News & World Report Ranks Berkeley College among the Best Colleges in the Nation for Online Bachelor's Degree Programs - No. 1 in New Jersey and No. 8 in New York


New York, NY, Jan. 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The U.S. News & World Report rankings for Best Colleges for Online Bachelor’s Degree Programs are out and Berkeley College is No. 1 among colleges ranked in New Jersey and No. 8 among colleges ranked in New York.

For the fifth consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report has ranked Berkeley College among the Best Colleges for Online Bachelor’s Degree Programs. Nationwide, Berkeley is No. 125 out of 357 schools surveyed. U.S. News & World Report ranked 259 out of these.

In New Jersey, Berkeley College ranked first among the five New Jersey colleges. In New York, Berkeley College ranked eighth among the 17 colleges located in New York.

Online Education at Berkeley College Gives World Champion Longboarder the Flexibility to Pursue Her Sport and a College Degree

For Berkeley College student Emily Pross, studying online allows her to compete globally in the downhill longboarding circuit while earning her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Communications. Ms. Pross regularly travels the world as the top-ranked female downhill longboarder in International Downhill Federation races. When not competing in a sport traditionally dominated by men, Ms. Pross utilizes resources provided to Berkeley College students online and on-site to continue her studies.

“Thanks to studying online, I can sign into my classes and complete coursework before and after competitions while I am on the road,” said Ms. Pross of Vernon, NJ, who is on track to graduate in 2019.

In 2018, Berkeley College commemorates 20 years of offering online education. Berkeley College began offering online courses in 1998 and online degrees in 2003. As of fall 2017, nearly 3,100 undergraduates and 104 graduate students were enrolled in at least one online course at Berkeley College. More than 395 sections of 188 undergraduate online courses are being taught by 194 faculty, and 22 graduate-level online courses by 14 faculty this semester. To date more than 3,000 students have graduated with online degrees.

Online Education Accelerates Berkeley Grad’s Path to Becoming a Lawyer

Berkeley College alumna Jessica Mahoney of Middletown, NY, acknowledges how she benefitted from earning her degree in Justice Studies – Criminal Justice online at Berkeley College. “I was able to live at home, work part-time, and obtain an internship at a local law office while earning my degree,” she said.

Ms. Mahoney graduated from Berkeley College in three years, with a BS in Justice Studies – Criminal Justice she earned in 2011. She took courses on site and online. She then followed her childhood dream to become a lawyer. Ms. Mahoney graduated from Albany Law School in 2014, the same year she sat for the New York State Bar Exam. By 2015 Ms. Mahoney was sworn in as an Attorney and Counsellor at Law by the Second Department of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. Focusing primarily in the areas of real property and municipal law, Ms. Mahoney opened her own firm, JM Mahoney Law PLLC, in September 2017.

“Taking courses online required a great level of self-discipline,” Ms. Mahoney said. “I learned the importance of time management, organization and how to balance my life. That transferred over in my career as an attorney where I constantly manage deadlines.”
