BCUC Inquiry Into The Regulation of Electric Vehicle Charging Service

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan. 24, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On January 12, 2018, the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) established an independent inquiry into the regulation of electric vehicle (EV) charging service. The services provided by EV charging stations are currently in an early development stage in British Columbia. Other entities may emerge over time to provide EV charging service.

The BCUC’s independent inquiry will explore the potential regulatory issues, including the level of regulation necessary (if any) in the EV charging stations market, the rates for EV charging service, and any other matters that should be considered by the BCUC. All documents related to the BCUC’s Inquiry can be viewed on the proceeding page at by clicking here.

There are a number of ways for members of the public to participate in a matter before the BCUC, including:

  • Submit a letter of comment: to share views and opinions in the Inquiry
  • Register as an interested party: to receive email notification of evidence filed in the Inquiry
  • Become an intervener: for those who want to actively participate in the Inquiry and file evidence

In the coming weeks, the BCUC will provide more information about dates, times and locations for Community Input Sessions where members of the public can present to the Panel as part of this Inquiry.

For more information about getting involved in a proceeding, members of the public should visit bcuc.com/get-involved.

Persons who are directly or sufficiently affected by the BCUC’s decision or have relevant information or expertise and who wish to actively participate in the Inquiry are encouraged to request intervener status by submitting a completed Request to Intervene form by February 16, 2018, found by clicking here.

Registered interveners will be permitted to submit evidence in this Inquiry by March 2, 2018.

The BCUC is a regulatory agency responsible for oversight of energy utilities and compulsory auto insurance in the province of British Columbia. It is the BCUC’s role to balance the interests of customers with the interests of the businesses we regulate. The BCUC carries out fair and transparent reviews of matters within its jurisdiction and considers public input where public interest is impacted.
