Lancaster, PA, Jan. 31, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mayor Danene Sorace joined with S. Dale High, Chairman of The S. Dale High Family Foundation, to announce five grants totaling $600,000 from the Foundation for neighborhood improvements in southwest Lancaster City. The capital gifts will be used to fund government and community organizations targeting repair and improvements to key corridors and gateways in the neighborhood, as well as property repairs and improvements.

The five grants presented by The S. Dale High Family Foundation include:
- $50,000 to the City of Lancaster for the Corridor Improvement Project. The grant includes funding to make improvements to the West King and Manor Street Corridor into the City, including 130 pedestrian-scale street lights and planting of 98 trees along a one-mile stretch. This effort is part of the SoWe Lancaster Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy led by Lancaster Housing Opportunities Partnership.
- $100,000 to the Lancaster City Alliance for the South Prince and South Queen St. Gateway. The grant will improve the physical appearance of the gateway, including facade improvements, installation of trash receptacles, planting of trees, and deploying neighborhood marketing. Mark Fitzgerald, president and COO of High Real Estate Group, serves on the Lancaster City Alliance Board.
- $250,000 to the Lancaster Housing Opportunity Partnership for the SoWe Lancaster Revitalization Strategy. The funding will improve the quality of life in the Southwest by investing in housing and safety. The S. Dale High Family Foundation will contribute $50,000 per year for five years starting in 2018, with a total gift amount of $250,000, supporting a $1.15 million grant received from Wells Fargo Regional Foundation.
- $100,000 to Lancaster Area Habitat for Humanity South Lancaster City Neighborhood Revitalization. The grant will increase accessibility to Habitat's Home Repair Program throughout the Southwest, contributing to the revitalization of South Christian Street, and to Habitat's first "Rock the Block" Party. The S. Dale High Family Foundation will contribute $50,000 per year for two years starting in 2018, with a total gift amount of $100,000.
- $100,000 to the Lancaster Redevelopment Fund., Inc. for the Lancaster County Land Bank. The grant will allow the Fund to acquire and assist in the rehabilitation of properties in member municipalities.
