“Lovers are not what makes a place romantic. The Romance of a place has to do with its mystery”-Kerry Hallam
If the world is a banquet, the paintings of Kerry Hallam are an invitation to sit at the table and join the feast. For the past half century, Hallam’s works have transported his thousands of collectors to an alluring atmosphere where the simple pleasures of life become simply magnificent, where a lifetime of travels have continually called him to the sea.
Today MLG proudly announced the opportunity to discover the latest Hallam masterworks at an exclusive reception at its Lahaina gallery, located at 790 Front Street in Maui. In addition to Hallam, seasoned and new collectors alike can admire and acquire the works of 20th and 21st century masters including Chagall, Picasso, Warhol, Erté, Kondakova, Lalonde and many more. The opening reception will be held on Friday, February 16th from 6-9PM.
Kerry Hallam is as refreshing and spirited as the enticing images, bold patterns and captivating compositions he creates. Born in Northern England, he won a six-year scholarship to London University’s Central College of Art and received formal training under British master painters. Britain’s Royal Society of Artists in Watercolor recognized that talent and included him in their ranks. Hallam was strongly influenced by the fauves, and has a noted affinity with the 19th century French Post-Impressionists, Cezanne and Van Gogh.
The Hallam exhibition at MLG culls its inspiration from the artist’s vivid windswept seascapes and includes “Ocean Breeze” an original acrylic on canvas. That magnificent work is awash with the palpable splendor of the water and the dramatic Maui Komohana. Hallam also invites us to embark upon the world of adventure with “Approaches to Lahaina” an authentic nautical chart enhanced with magnificent sailing yachts. All of Hallam’s works unlock the memories of past loves, intimate encounters, and cherished moments in time.
“We recognize songs that we have never heard. We remember the faces of people we have yet to meet. We are familiar with places we have never been. We all long for a chance to live, if only for a short time, a life that is perhaps more fulfilling, more rewarding, more nurturing or simply different than the one we have. We long for adventure; for romance; for a chance to start over in another time and in a new place”-Kerry Hallam
Enthusiasm is Hallam’s currency, and his art is filled with timeless, sun-dappled village scenes. Noted for his power to evoke emotion, and his use of the opulence of light and distinctive color harmonies, Hallam translates the ordinary into the magical, inviting us to be revitalized by the world’s simple pleasures. His panoramas continue to draw accolades, including a first-place award by the prestigious L’Association Pour le Promotion Artistique Francais. Hallam has been honored throughout his career with innumerable one-man exhibitions around the world and is a mainstay at all nine of Martin Lawrence Galleries’ locations across the country. His work has been featured in newspaper and magazine articles as well as in PBS television specials.
Martin Lawrence Galleries is proud to be the exclusive home of Kerry Hallam original watercolors, acrylics on canvas, nautical charts and hand-signed, limited editions graphics, and his stunning new collection offers a magnificent opportunity to acquaint, or reacquaint, yourself with its magic.
