Held in Grand Boulevard at Sandestin’s Town Center, the South Walton Beaches Wine & Food Festival will feature winemakers from wineries and vineyards around the world, pouring fine wines and Champagnes. South Africa, France and Oregon are the wine regions represented by three of the most popular featured wineries. Festival attendees will have the opportunity to meet these renowned winemakers and industry experts to discuss their wines during seminars and tastings.
Anthony Hamilton Russell of Hamilton Russell Vineyards, Southern Right and Ashbourne wineries, located in Walker Bay, South Africa has built an international reputation for his Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines made at Hamilton Russell Vineyards. His Southern Right and Ashbourne wineries specialize in South Africa’s unique red variety, Pinotage, and his lauded white wines reflect Sauvignon Blanc characteristics. Anthony and his wife will co-present a tasting seminar on Saturday, April 28.
Pinot lovers rejoice. David Adelsheim, director of Adelsheim Vineyard, which he founded with Ginny Adelsheim in 1971, will present his tasting seminar on Sunday, April 29. He is recognized as one of the founders of the Oregon wine industry and he was bestowed the industry’s highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award, in February 2012 by the Oregon Wine Board.
Champagne is popular at South Walton Beaches Wine & Food Festival and the first Sunday tasting seminar will feature Mathieu Pouchan, the export director for Delamotte and Salon Champagnes. House of Delamotte has been a benchmark in Champagne since 1760 and remains a highly sought-after and respected Champagne. Festival attendees will be invited to taste his renowned Champagnes during the Grand Tastings and the Sunday tasting seminar at which Delamotte will be poured. At the VIP tasting, Pouchan will pour the finest of the Delamotte and Salon Champagne libraries.
On Saturday, April 28, the Destin Charity Wine Auction (DCWA), a separately ticketed event, will be held under the Grand Tent. DCWA ranks among the nation’s top 10 most successful charity wine auctions in the country by Wine Spectator Magazine. Founded in 2005, DCWAF is celebrating its 13th anniversary this year and has donated more than $15 million to support a variety of children’s charities over the last decade. In 2017, DCWAF donated $2.66 million to 15 non-profit organizations serving children in need in Northwest Florida. Organizers hope to exceed last year’s record-breaking donation in 2018.
