TORONTO, March 06, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On March 7, Arcadian Court in Toronto will be filled with hundreds of tiles that spell words including L-I-T-E-R-A-C-Y as Bay Street’s fiercest wordsmiths compete in the 14th annual SCRABBLE Corporate Challenge to raise funds for Frontier College. Frontier College is Canada’s oldest literacy organization that provides free literacy programs for children, youth, and adults across the country.
Hosted by Pat Bolland and presented by TMX Group, the tournament attracts 200 senior executives from Canada’s banks, investment, technology, accounting, and law firms for a one-night, no spellcheck SCRABBLE competition. Companies including Broadridge, Capco, CIBC, Cisco, Deloitte, EY, FTSE Russell, KPMG, National Bank, Scotiabank, ServiceNow, S&P Dow Jones Indices, and TMX Group, will battle it out with the help of nationally ranked SCRABBLE players to see who will win the coveted 2018 SCRABBLE Corporate Challenge title and the TMX Cup. CIBC Lexicologists will defend their 2017 TMX Cup title.
“I am inspired by these companies recognizing the importance of supporting literacy in Canada. Minimum literacy requirements have changed in today’s knowledge-based economy, and Canadians have to be more skilled at reading, writing, and computing in order to compete for jobs and participate in fully in their communities. Frontier College works to help children, youth, and adults with low literacy improve their skills and increase their confidence,” says Stephen Faul, President, Frontier College.
"We are proud to support literacy initiatives such as the SCRABBLE Corporate Challenge where industry and community come together to foster a competitive and engaging learning experience," said Jean Desgagné, President & CEO, TMX Global Solutions, Insights & Analytics Strategies, TMX Group.
The SCRABBLE Corporate Challenge was established in 2005 and has raised $3.4 million for Frontier College and its important mission to improve literacy rates across Canada.
